AMERICAN FLYER 769 ROTATING BEACON
(Original Gilbert Instructions)
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING NO. 769
ROTARY BEACON.
No. 769 Rotary Beacon consists of a plastic
lattice work tower, a special lamp and a
rotating lens housing. The lamp and lens
housing are packed in their own containers.
Install the Beacon as follows:
1. Clean off the insulation from the ends
of the two wires.
2. Connect one of the wires to the base post
on the transformer. Connect the other wire
to the 15 Volt post on the transformer. When
using a No. 14 Rectiformer, the two wires
should be connected to the two alternating
current pouts.
3. Take lamp No. 461 from its package and
screw it firmly into the socket on top of
the tower. Note that the top of the lamp
has a small cup-like depression.
4. Unpack the rotary lens housing carefully
and gently lower it over the lamp so that
the steel pivot inside the housing rests
in the cup on top of the lamp. Handle the
housing carefully. It is very delicate.
After a minute or two the lamp will heat
the air inside the housing and this warm
air streaming through the vents in the top
of the housing will cause it to turn slowly.
If you wish you can start it off. by spinning
it gently in clockwise direction.
IMPORTANT: If you wish the beacon to operate
at its normal slow speed keep it out of drafts.
The rotating housing is so light that a slight
breeze will speed up its normal motion considerably,
or stop it completely.
Addendum: There are several other factors
that can effect the operation of the Beacon.
1. The Tower should be set up and be as level
as possible.
2. The temperature in the room can cause
the beacon to take longer to heat up.
3. The vents on the top of the beacon should
be adjusted, usually they get closed down
and restrict the air flow.
As stated in the original instructions, the
beacon is delicate, so any adjustments must
be made with care.
